What happened to the farm?

Some of you have asked about the farm that we acquired a few years ago.  Here's the rest of the story....

Back in 2002, we visited the Big Island for the first time.  During this trip, we visited many parts of the island.
We also decided that we would make the BIG Island our future home.  The biodiversity, variety of climates,
and, most importantly, the sense of community all appealed to us.

Of all of the areas that we visited, we felt most comfortable with the lush Hamakua coast.  The green
landscape, massive views to the Pacific, spectacular sunrise, and population density were dramatically
different from other parts of the island.

During the same trip, we found the 'ranch'.  This farm, we reasoned would be the place where we would build
a home 'someday'.  It is located on the slopes of Mauna Kea (everything here is on the slope of some
volcano), in a town called Papaaloa.

Many acres of guava grow on the land, 500 trees we were told.  We did not count but it looked like they were all
there.  There is a small cottage on the property and the current caretaker has a couple of dogs, several
chickens and peacocks.

As it turned out, we later decided to make our new
home in the city of Hilo, a few miles south of the farm.
We hope to turn this into an operating farm and a vacation get-away in a few years.  Anyone interested in
helping out?

All Ocean

Well not quite.  However, at over 1500 foot above sea level,
you can see the curvature of the earth!  That was our initial
reaction as we walked around the farm and looked out to
sea.  The ocean goes on and on.

Breath taking views, fresh air, glorious sunrises, even
rainbows at night!

Images from the farm...

Here are a few images that we took during a trip to the farm
in late 2003.
